Health insurance coverage is mandatory for all international student who are in

F-1 and J-1 status, and also an F-2 enrolled

in classes at KU or J-2 dependents whose DS-2019 is issued by the University of Kansas.

United Healthcare¡¯s Student Resources insurance coverage is automatically included on

all F-1, F-2 and J-1 students¡¯ accounts, regardless of their course load.

The charge for insurance will be included in international student tuition bills and fees. Please reference the

Payment Options page for information on the costs associated with this insurance plan.

New Electronic Waiver Process

Students who have an alternative insurance plan, may request a waiver of the KU plan,

as long as their insurance meets or exceeds the Kansas Board of Regents requirements.

To receive a waiver, students must complete the online waiver process

on or before the first day of classes, for a given term.

If the Insurance Coordinator determines an alternative plan meets the

KBOR requirements, the financial charge for the plan will be removed from the student¡¯s account

The intent of these insurance requirements is for all international students to have excellent,

f you have further questions, please contact the Insurance Coordinator at

issinsurance@ku.edu.
