All international students are automatically enrolled in the GeoBlue Worldwide Insurance Services plan unless they have an exemption or apply for a waiver. 

Health requirements for students at Ball State exist primarily to protect the student body as a whole from infectious disease.

International graduate and undergraduate students must meet all the same health requirements as undergraduate domestic students, as well as a few other requirements.

Requirements are different for domestic students (those from the United States) and  international students.

If you have health insurance that meets the same coverage as Ball State’s endorsed plan, you can apply for a waiver.

Waiver Process 

1.Complete the online form to apply for a waiver by the deadline below.

2.Submit scanned copies of your insurance card and your policy brochure or coverage details by email.

3.You will receive an email confirming or denying your waiver.

4.Submit the Insurance Waiver Confirmation E-Form to

Required Information 

To apply for a waiver, you must have the following:
Ball State student ID number and your last name
proof that existing insurance plan meets the following coverage:
at least $250,000 maximum benefit for accident or sickness
maximum of $5,000 out-of-pocket within the $250, 000 benefit
100 percent coverage for accident or sickness
pre-existing conditions within six months
at least $25,000 for repatriation of remains expense
at least $50,000 in medical evacuation expense
individual details such as biographical information and student status information
insurance details such as policy/group number, address, and phone number of the company, and effective coverage dates for verification purposes

Waiver Deadlines

You can apply for waivers beginning six weeks before the start of classes.

You must have applied for the waiver and submitted all required documents by the second Friday of classes

If you are beginning your program in October, March, or June, you will need to
speak directly with an international student advisor at the Rinker Center within
the first week of classes to apply for a waiver.

If you waive the insurance plan and drop or lose coverage on your private
insurance plan, you must notify the Rinker Center immediately so that
you can be enrolled in the HTH plan.

Important: If your current policy does not cover repatriation of remains and
medical evacuation, you can get a supplemental policy to cover it.​
